Penguin Encounter is a complex facility and exhibition dedicated to the management and of King and Gentoo penguins in a climate-controlled environment. This required the meeting of stringent Quarantine Containment Level 3 design and construction specifications required by AQIS for post-arrival quarantine following importation from New Zealand.
From the first moment construction commenced our skills were put to the test. A very tight site made material handling and access difficult. The programming of works to schedule the many trades, specialist services, and the coordination of plant and equipment originating from China, Japan, Italy and America, was a delicate balance between maintaining access whilst keeping the project moving forward.
The Penguin Encounter has been the most challenging and rewarding project that we have had the pleasure of working on. We have certainly built much larger projects, but the unique nature of this building along with the specialist services and AQIS requirements coupled with fixed milestone dates has set this project apart from any other.
